Lot Essay

With Girard-Perregaux presentation box and certificate.

Founded in 1791, Girard-Perregaux carries out its own in-house design and production for both their external components and movements. It is this creative meticulousness that has resulted in the award-winning Three Golden Bridges Tourbillon, which reverses the traditional pocket watch tourbillon escapement so that the mechanism is displayed on the dial. Each bridge has a different role - the first, holds the mainspring balance in place; the centre holds the hour and minute hand; whilst the third bridge holds the tourbillon. The three bridge design is also purported to hold conceptual meaning - some say that it is said to represent the past, present and future whilst others deem it as symbolic of the Holy Trinity.
