With Rolex Guarantee dated 9 October 1958, stamped Lien Wah Watch Dealer, Singapore, Bureaux Suisse de Contrôle Officiel de la Marche des Montres Watch Rate Certificate no. 657802 dated 26 December 1957, contemporary GMT-Master brochure and contemporary green presentation box.
The present watch is a charismatic and extremely rare example of the early generation GMT-Master model reference 6542. The most notable feature is its black lacquered so-called "exclamation" dial with gold printing, characterized by an additional luminous dot positioned underneath the 6 o'clock hour marker. These dials were in production for an extremely short period only and in such attractive condition represent a true value for the avid collector.
The watch is furthermore preserved in overall very good original condition. The case, never exposed to careless polishing, impresses any beholder with its full body and sharp angles to the facets of the lugs. It furthermore retains the original bakelite bezel in very good condition, correct hands and crown, magnified lens for the date and the extensible Oyster bracelet from the same period, the clasp stamped 4.57 for fourth quarter of 1957, corresponding to the indication IV.57 found on the inside of its screw back and matching the date of the Bulletin de Marche, December 1957.
