Lot Essay

The arms are those of DeVahl-Samuel impaling those of Samuel. The arms of DeVahl-Samuel were granted to Denis Samuel, Esq., of Dublin, formerly of Rio de Janeiro, on his assumption of the additional surname of DeVahl in 1854. The canton in the 1st and 4th quarter of his arms represents the badge of an Officer of the Rose, presented to Denis Samuel by Dom Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil, in 1844.
