Justino Fernández was one of Mexico's leading art historians and critics. His book, A Guide to Mexican Art, still remains a remarkable survey of more than twenty centuries of artistic production in Mexico. This monumental painting (part of a series) pays tribute to the artist's supporter and friend--Justino Fernández. He championed Coronel's artistic production--his numerous essays about the artist are well known and are also included in several monographs about Coronel. Here, the artist chose to celebrate his friend's career and life in an explosion of vibrant and brilliant colors rendering tribute to someone whose words had such power and magnificence.
