The present watch is part of a limited series, launched in 1994 to honour the memory of the famous cartographer and humanist Gerardus Mercator on the 400th anniversary of his passing. The enamel dials depict the hand drawn maps of Gerardus Mercator from 1587, of the American Continent or Europe, Africa and Asia. The detailed enamel work is faithfully reproduced on each dial by Lucie and Jean Genbrugge, enamellers of Broechem Belgium.

The model is illustrated in Armbanduhren by Kahlert, Muhe, Brunner, fifth edition, p. 464.
