Maker's mark 'MT', Moscow, 1899-1908
The cup tapering cylindrical, on shaped scrolling bracket feet, the body enamelled with an eagle with a sunburst halo, surrounded by varicolor shaded stylized flowers and foliage, the rim inscribed 'Eugene Baron of Fersen to the Chicago Club', the lower body inscribed '1901 1903', the cover with a fleur-de-lys finial, marked under base and on bezel, the shaped saucer with conforming decoration and roundels containing gold interlaced C's, fleurs-de-lys, and a crown, the reverse engraved 'W.J. Korniloff Moscow Verchnie Ryadi N 195 1903', marked on rim

Lot Essay

The spiritual leader Baron Eugene Alexandrovich Fersen was born in St Petersburg in 1873. Known to his followers as 'Svetozar', he travelled extensively in the United States, where he founded the Lightbearers Organization and published his magnum opus, The Science of Being. He died in Seattle, Washington in 1956.
