Lot Essay

The present painting is characteristic of Bartolomeo Veneto's portrait style. The pose of the sitter, costume and landscape background closely resemble those found in another bust-length portrait offered on the market (Sotheby's, New York, 27 January 2005, lot 163 for $120,000; see L. Pagnotta, Bartolomeo Veneto, l'opera completa, Florence, 1997, pp. 180-181, no. 11, fig. 49).
