My paintings dating from 1969 onwards leave an after-image in the mind. I've been working on the electromagnetic spectrum, of which light is but a part, and is itself a spectrum of all the colors. But the color "mixing" I use takes place in the intellect rather than in the eye, where, in the normal, healthy eye, color mixtures take place automatically in order to take in the total "reality"; so that, when the Impressionists and Pointillists thought that divided color mixed up evenly in the eye to merge into "reality" from a distance of 10 to 20 feet, they were mistaken, for this happens in any case, i.e., for example an orange pigment on an object gets broken up by the three cone photoreceptors in the eye, into green and red to make yellow...
