Lot Essay

The present watch belongs to the celebrated John Shaeffer collection produced by Audemars Piguet in the 1990s. This limited edition minute repeating cushion-shaped wristwatch is a modern recreation of a 1907 repeating wristwatch produced by the firm for the American businessman John W. Schaeffer. The collection includes the present example as well as other limited edition complicated timepieces. The orginal 1907 verison of the watch with John Shaeffer dial is illustrated in Audemars Piguet by Brunner, Pfeiffer-Belli and Wehrli, 1993, page 255.
