Lot Essay

According to the present owner, "Ganesh Pyne was a friend of my parents in Calcutta many years ago. My parents were closely associated with the Society of Contemporary Artists in Calcutta in the 60s. The artists Ganesh Pyne, Dipak Banerjee (my father's younger brother), Somnath Hore among others used to come to meet and socialise at our house and indulge in tea, snacks and 'adda' (typical Bengali pursuit of laughter, chat and tea). My father often visited Ganesh Pyne at his studio and on one of these visits bought this painting from the artist soon after it was painted in 1968."
