Lot Essay

We are grateful to Jeremy Howarth for confirming the attribution, on the basis of photographs. He pointed to its close relationship with a version on copper that was sold at the Dorotheum, Vienna (20 October 1993, lot 287). A squared up drawing of this composition is in the Albertina, Vienna.
