A JAPANESE GILT-COPPER-MOUNTED AND GILT-DECORATED BLACK LACQUER COFFER ON A GILTWOOD STAND
LATE 17TH CENTURY, THE STAND GEORGE II, CIRCA 1730-40
The rectangular top and front decorated with mountainous landscapes within nashiji borders and mounted with foliate-engraved clasps, the cartouche-shaped escutcheon similarly engraved, the sides with carrying handles, the interior decorated with nashiji lacquer, the stand with shaped apron centred by a shell and carved with scrolling acanthus and above paw-carved feet
