Lot Essay

A mirror with similarly entwined serpents bearing the trade label of S. Lindsay, 45 Lower Stafford Street, Dublin was included in an exhibition of Irish Georgian Furniture, Johnston Antiques, Dublin, 2000, no. 16 and was later sold anonymously Christie's, New York, 30 April 2007, lot 187 ($30,000). Another is photographed in the Parlor at Stanton Harcourt Parsonage, Oxfordshire (J. Fowler and J. Cornforth, English Decoration in the 18th Century, London, 1978, p. 193, fig. 177).
