Lot Essay

KK: The, can you talk a little bit about the performance history of the 12-string, and the 6-string that Martin made? Have you been using these guitars exclusively?

JC: Yes, I have. For performance, I only use them, and I haven't performed a lot with the 6-string. I had an accident with my, with one of the 12-strings. I dropped it. You know, these ferocious looking guitar stands, there are all kinds of guitar stands, and you don't know sometimes, when you turn around to get rid of your guitar and set it down, what you're going to be faced with. And somehow my guitar fell, and was badly damaged, so the 12-string had to go back to the factory and get fixed. And that's happened twice. [CHUCKLES] And I never had that happen before.

CE: You don't strike me as a guitar smasher on stage.

JC: No, I'm not really, it was, my Jimi Hendrix act, but without some of the results.
Once I had an amazing thing happen. I was in England, and my friend Kenny White was on the sidelines. The stage was slightly raked, and it had also had been polished, and I hit that stage carrying my guitar, my 12-string, and I hit that stage and flew on my ass, with the guitar on my chest, perfectly safe.
But I've played the guitars on my recordings, since they've been made, the 6 and the 12. I've played them all over the world.
