Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with raised hour markers in steel and tachometer scale in 1949 and its subsequent sale on 3 November 1950.

This watch is part of the exceedingly rare very last series of the celebrated model, its case differing from the earlier production stainless steel reference 130 in most aspects: most remarkably is the diameter of 33.6 mm., exceeding the size of the latter by nearly one millimetre. The width between the lugs is 18 mm. as opposed to the 19 mm. of the previous generation. The lugs are of entirely different shape as well as more downturned than those of its peer, the pin holes are filled and rendering them a smoother look.

This reference 130 in stainless steel is a perfect proof of how a vintage watch can be: both a highly exclusive collector's item and a wonderful companion for daily wear. Its discreet look paired with the distinguished chronograph mechanism, the signature of Geneva's most prestigious manufacturers and its high level of rarity make it a great candidate either to a novice buyer or the seasoned collector.
