Gilt-finished movement, duplex escapement, finely engraved foliage decorated balance cock, gold cuvette engraved with the Royal crown and Queen Victoria's monogram and initials G.G.G., finely engraved foliage decorated gold dial, Roman numerals on engine-turned chapter ring, blued steel moon style hands, outer minute divisions, engine-turned subsidiary seconds, circular case, ribbed band, engine-turned back centred by the engraved Royal crest depicting the head of a stag above a three-pronged crown, case and cuvette numbered and stamped with casemaker's mark LC and London date letter for 1842, movement signed

Lot Essay

The cuvette of the present watch is engraved with Queen Victoria's monogram and the initials G.G.G.. It was presented by her to George Grant Gordon, C.B., C.V.O., 1836-1912, an Officier who serviced in the Crimea, ADC to General Simpson, equerry and comptroller of the household of Prince and Princess Christian. The watch is delivered with photocopies of the correspondence from Windsor Castle dated 1854 and 1855 related to the gift of this watch to him, at the end of his service as page of honor. Furthermore accompanied by a photocopy listing his military career.
