Lot Essay

'The title Pandarus came from my favourite Chaucer tale, Troilus and Cressida ... It is very moving and poetic. There is a character in the tragedy called Pandarus, who is the go-between. He is a noisy but kind individual who tries to help the lovers' (see T. Woollcombe, Kenneth Armitage Life and Work, Much Hadham, 1997, p. 63) (see also lot 140).
