The author explains: 'His first fashion images were made for a feature, Chapeau-Choc, for the February 1955 issue [of Vogue]. [Edmonde] Charles-Roux [the Editor] went on location with Bourdin on the streets of Paris.... He posed model Sophie Litvak in a broad-brimmed hat in front of a row of gutted rabbits in the March de Buci. The sharply focused image...was anarchic and aggressive. The picture was rejected by Vogue. Bourdin had indulged his taste for provocation and revealed the perverse streak that ran through his imagination.'
