Lot Essay

The present work was likely a preparatory drawing for an etching by the artist of 1922. The etching is reproduced in R. Cortissoz, Catalogue of the Etchings and Dry-Points of Childe Hassam, N.A., New York, 1925, pp. 79, 83, no. 211.

This drawing will be included in Stuart P. Feld's and Kathleen M. Burnside's forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist's work.
