The Collection of Mr. Lin Shengyang
An ancestral native of Chenghai, Guangdong, Lin Shengyang was a famous modern abstract artist. Born in Bangkok in 1917, Lin lived there for 20 years. He studied advertising design at an Art School in Bangkok, which confirmed his desire to dedicate his life to art. At the height of the Sino-Japanese War in 1939, Lin's patriotism led him to return to Kunming and study at the Hangzhou National Art Institute, where he graduated in 1944 and then stayed on in China to teach. Lin studied at the Institut d'Etudes Superieures des Arts in Paris for two years beginning in 1950. Later he attended the Bienal International de Sao Paulo in 1959 and subsequently settled in Brazil permanently, selling his art and teaching to make a living. Lin later taught at the Art Institute of Sao Paulo, where he received many accolades for his dedication as a teacher and a promoter of cross-cultural awareness. Lin's passionate interest in the arts led him to meet artists Zhang Daqian, Huang Junbi, Zhao Shao'ang and Guan Liang in China, Taiwan, Brazil and Hong Kong, and they dedicated paintings to him as a sign of their friendship.
