John Arnold (1736-1799) is one of the great innovators and pioneers of horology. He is known for his technical skills and is credited with producing the first modern chronometer. His timepieces had an accuracy and precision that are still a marvel today. He is credited with advances like the detached escapement and a balance that adjusted for temperature.
