Gilt chain fusée movement, Arnold spring detent escapement with the detent set into the top plate, bi-metallic OZ balance with compensation weights, blued steel helical spring with diamond endstone, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, in plain case, case stamped with casemaker's mark W(?)E and London datemark for 1777, movement signed and numbered

John Arnold (1736-1799) is one of the great innovators and pioneers of horology. He is known for his technical skills and is credited with producing the first modern chronometer. His timepieces had an accuracy and precision that are still a marvel today. He is credited with advances like the detached escapement and a balance that adjusted for temperature.
