Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919)
PROPERTY FROM A DISTINGUISHED PRIVATE COLLECTION The fallowing property is offered for sale from a distinguished private collection. Begun in the 1960s and formed over the course of tree decades, this is a very private and personal collection and is a testament to knowledge and taste. Each piece in the collection was clearly chosen for its individual merits and speaks of quality and connoisseurship, while also contributing to the cohesion of the collection. The collection is unified by a certain delicacy and lightness of touch and a sense of serenity and introspection which permeates every figure and every landscape. This sense of intimacy is present as much in Renoir's sublime works on paper and Degas's Danseuse as it is in Vuillard's intimiste interiors and Boudin's crinolines beach picture. Comprising a core group of classic Impressionism, the collection also looks forward to Post-Impressionism with artists such as Cezanne, Bonnard and Cross and will be offered in the Impressionist & Modern Art Day sale on 10 February 2011 and the South Kensington Impressionist & Modern Art sale on 11 February 2011. Another part of the collection, including wonderful examples of 19th century art by Honore Daumier, Caspar David Friedrich and Adolphe Menzel, will be offered in the Old Master and 19th Century Art sale in London in July 2011.
