This work is one of five recorded drawings which are related to the figure of the dancer at the centre left of the oil Répétition d'un ballet sur la scène, circa 1876 (Lemoisne no. 400, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; cf. Lemoisne no. 402 & Atelier 2.331 & 4.276a).
