De forme rectangulaire aux angles arrondis, en bois laqué écaille, le plateau muni d'une tablette rétractable à gauche, ouvrant en façade par trois séries de quatre tiroirs, cinq tiroirs aménagés de compartiments dont trois couverts, les poignées de tirage en creux soulignées de laque noire formant trois larges bandes verticales

Further Details

A lacquered wood commode, fitted with drawers and sliding shelf, with recessed pulls and retainning one key, by Jean Dunand, for his own use, 1928

During renovations to enlarge his studio in 1928 Dunand fell from the roof, and with his leg broken was immobilised in bed for four weeks. The present chest was positioned adjacent to his bed, fitted with a pivoting table that allowing Dunand to continue to work whilst incapacitated.

Lot Essay

Alors que Dunand dirige les travaux d'agrandissement de ses ateliers en 1928, il tombe du toit et se casse une jambe. Alité pour quatre semaines, il met au point cette commode tiroirs, dont la tablette pivotante se déplie à hauteur de son lit, afin de pouvoir travailler en position allongée.
