Lot Essay

This work will be included in Fanny Guillon-Laffaille's forthcoming supplement to the catalogue raisonné des aquarelles, gouaches et pastels de Raoul Dufy currently in preparation.

This work was executed in the visitors' book of the restaurant Chez Marianne in Le Marais. Cocteau, Foujita, Charles Gesmar, Guy Arnoux and many others left signed and dedicated drawings. The book includes numerous dedications, poems and signatures dating from 1922 through to 1951 including Maurice Chevalier, Jules Massenet, Maurice Rostand, Abel Gance, Reynaldo Hahn, A. Honegger, Jules Romains, Prince Paul of Serbia, Sacha Guitry, Josephine Baker and Mistinguette.
