Lot Essay

Small gueridons of this type were an ever popular mainstay of Linke's production. The present lot, signed by Linke and typical of his oeuvre especially in his early years, also bears on the underside the 'F. Linke' script signature or marque au fer used consistently by the Linke family to mark items in their own possession. Several of the items that came directly from the Linke family, sold A Private Collection Volume I, Sotheby's, New York, 26 October 2006, lots 204-228, had the same stamp discreetly marked underneath.
