Lot Essay

Working in the Mourlot atelier in 1953 Picasso noticed a printing plate lying in a corner that had been used several years before to print an exhibition poster. Picasso took it home and brought it back the next day thus modified. The original painting is by Victor Orsel (1795-1850).
