Lot Essay

Arthur Paul Walsh, born 1815, died 1893, Frith Street, Soho, was an eminent pocket chronometer maker reputed to have invented the duo-in-uno balance spring.

It is interesting that this invention was also claimed by John McLennan, another prominent chronometer maker (see lot 110 in this auction, Obituary published in Horological Journal, Vol. XXIX, January 1887, pp. 78-79).
