Garvin Brown III (1943-2010) was the great-grandson of George Garvin Brown, the founder of Brown-Forman Corporation, the Kentucky distiller that owns world famous spirits brands, such as Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey. After a short career in the family business, Garvin struck out on his own to Los Angeles, where he was involved in media and entertainment and ultimately motor sports. He owned and managed teams in the Can Am, Formula Atlantic and Formula Ford series in the United States. He also had interests in the Formula One and World Cart Series (Indy). His premier driver, Danny Sullivan was subsequently a Champion of the Indianapolis 500 race. He was much beloved in the world of motor sports, where he formed close friendships with many of the sports leading personalities, including Paul Newman, who introduced him to the world of chronographs. In later life, Garvin's passions took him from Los Angeles to New York, Milan, Monte Carlo, and ultimately to Miami and the Mediterranean. Here, his love of machinery evolved into a passion for boating. In the years prior to his untimely passing, he could be found behind the wheel of his Pershing on Lake Como, or off the coast of Corsica in his CRN XXXX, Lady Trudy II. As can be seen in the watches from his collection, he loved the craftsmanship of complicated movements, and embraced the nautical offerings of some of the world's great manufacturers. His collection is the expression of a man who quite literally spent the best years of his life in the fast lane of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
