Cal. 79091 nickel-finished lever movement, 75 jewels, minute repeating on two gongs, white dial, applied gold baton numerals, four subsidiary dials for 30 minutes register and moon phases, day and constant seconds, date, month and 12 hours register, aperture for the four digit year display between 7 and 8 o'clock, large circular case, stepped bezel, screw down crown, back secured by six screws and with the inscription International Watch Co., Grande Complication, 1993, No. 43/50, Platinum, repeating slide in the band, platinum IWC buckle, case, dial and movement signed

Lot Essay

With IWC unsigned International Guarantee card, original tags, veneered presentation box with plaque on the inside inscribed Grande Complication 1993 No. 43/50 and outer packaging. Furthermore delivered with the book Grande Complication - Die Grande Complication von IWC by Manfred Fritz in German.

The present watch is number 43 of a limited edition of 50 examples of this reference produced by IWC in 1993. Consigned by the original owner and obviously never been used, it is preserved in like new overall condition.

The Grande Complication is one of IWC's most exclusive timepieces with production limited to just 50 watches a year. Consisting of 659 mechanical parts, 21 functions and displays, a perpetual calendar for the next 500 years and a perpetual moon phase display made of polished goldstone, this watch is a tour de force. The minute repeating chime is exceptional, as the sapphire crystal has been freely suspended on a platinum membrane, amplifying the gong vibrations via the sound transmission pin.
