Further Details
The intensity and saturation are the main factors in determining the colour grade of fancy coloured diamonds. The rarest colours are red, green, blue and pink but purple diamonds are also very rare. Purple appearance is generally associated with other hues and is most often observed as a modifier or secondary colour in diamonds of other predominant colours (e.g., purplish-pink, purplish-red and purple-pink). Therefore, the unmodified purple hue of the present 1.04ct bullet-shaped diamond can be considered as a wonder of nature. The unusual characteristics of this diamond deserved a special note from Gems & Gemology, Vol 26, No. 2, 1990, pp. 154-155. Since its unprecedented sale at Christie's Geneva in November 1990, none have appeared on the auction market. For most gemmologists and diamond collectors, this is an opportunity to see and acquire such an extremely rare purple diamond.
