LOTS 2621-2624 PAINTINGS BY ZHANG DAQIAN FROM THE MO GUI TANG COLLECTION The owner of the Mo Gui Tang collection Li Qiaofeng was born in 1921 in Guangdong. With a passionate love for Chinese paintings and calligraphy, Li studied under the tutelage of many artists, particularly, Zhang Daqian. During Zhang Daqian's visits to Hong Kong, Li would play host to him and spend time together discussing the arts.

Lot Essay

The receiver of this painting, Jian Jinglun, was a native of Guangdong. Born in the fourteenth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu (1888), he was a scholar, a skilled painter and calligrapher. With a passionate interest in oracle bone script, he collated many old texts and transformed them into poetry. Known for his vast collection of seals and oracle bone poetry, he spent the late years of his life writing calligraphy and painting.
