Lot Essay

Zhang Fuxiang (1902-1991) was a native of Jiangsu, of quiet, contemplative nature and interested in antiques. Having lived in Shanghai for a long time, he was influenced by the Shanghai style of seal carving, studying seal carving from the Zhou and Qin dynasties up to his contemporaries. His seals are meticulously and methodically carved, and he excelled in smaller seal carving and rubbings on ink-stones. After he migrated to Taiwan, he set up shop to sell his own seals. He also enjoyed drinking.
