Lot Essay

This painting was a gift from Zhang Daqian to Mr. and Mrs. Zhang Junguang in 1976. Zhang Junguang (born 1909) was a native of Shanghai, he taught at the Shanghai Open University, and was editor and chief at the Shanghai periodical Yuan Dong Yue Bao??? (Far East Monthly Magazine). Later he was involved in the Kuomintang's Industrial and Commerce Sector and held numerous positions, including manager of the West-South Precinct for the General Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of China's and manager of the Central Saving Association Kunming Branch. In 1949 he came to Hong Kong and became chairman and director of Hua Li Trading Company, director of Hong Kong Chinese Confederation for Factories, chairman of Hong Kong Eastern Athletic Association, minister and advisor of the Hong Kong Tung Hua Group of Hospitals, as well as Hong Kong Pok Oi Group of Hospitals, at the same time he invested in and became director for Yik San Textile Company, later taking on honorary positions, such as the Honorary Chairman of the Hong Kong Kowloon Chamber of Commerce, Director of Hong Kong Li Yuan Corporation, Taiwan Pollution Prevention Company, and Mei Guo Da Da Industrial Company.
During his time as a member of the Council for the Federation Of Overseas Chinese Associations. R.O.C. (Taiwan), Zhang arranged and co-hosted an unveiling ceremony jointly with Song Meiling, in the fifty-fourth year of the Republic, 1965.
