Château Latour--Vintage 1949
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Vintage note: Along with 1947, 1949 was one of the very hottest years of the 20th century, with brilliant sunshine all summer. Fortunately for posterity, the year did not lack a bit of some rain late in the season to refresh the vines - an essential characteristic of a good year.
"...a riveting, opulently-textured drinking experience. Its spectacularly perfumed bouquet consists of truffles, black tea, soy, minerals, and copious sweet prune, coffee-infused, blackcurrant fruit. Sweet on the attack, with a rare opulence, a voluptuous texture, full body." 98 points, Robert Parker, June 2000
"Fairly deep, richly, coloured; classic nose and flavour; slightly sweet, perfect weight and balance. Fully mature yet time in hand. Last tasted from an immaculate cellar. A long life ahead." Michael Broadbent M.W., May 2007
