Château Latour--Vintage 1947
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Vintage note: 1947 was an extraordinarily hot year that produced grapes of great ripeness. The fruit contained so much sugar that some properties had difficulty fermenting all of it and there were a number of cases of stuck fermentation and volatile acidity. The properties who were successful, however, made wonderful wine.
"Sauvage, cuir, légère trace de volatile, tannins fermes. Viril. Sans compromis!" At the estate, Frédéric Engerer, March 2011
"Spectacular. The 47 Latour at a recent dinner showed a rich, lushly plum and fig fruit character with an almost honeyed edge to it along with notes of cedar, cigar box, smoke, and just a hint of wild herbs at the end. On the palate the wine was tremendously powerful, with full body, supple but still very present tannins, and a long, long lingering finish." At the estate, Charles Curtis M. W., March 2011
"A Latour that I can inhale throughout the evening and be absolutely content. The nose is seductive and spicy. The wonderful bouquet of flavours carries through on the palate with amazing depth and the finish is very long. The wine beguiles by evolving and changing by the minute in the glass. A multi-dimensional beauty, one with charm as well as grace. A perfect wine." At the estate, Jeannie Cho Lee, March 2011
"Incredibly scented, including of sandalwood, spice and whiffs of leather. Exotic. Very fruity V dried Chinese plums - and with intensity. Incredible length." At the estate, Ch'ng Poh Tiong, March 2011
