Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1960 and its subsequent sale on October 22, 1960. Further accompanied by a Patek Philippe presentation box.

Patek Philippe produced the reference 2499 from 1950 until approximately 1985. This iconic chronograph is one of the greatest models produced and has influenced watch makers since its debut. The model replaced another historic model the 1518.

The reference 2499 was produced in four series with a total production of only 349 pieces, the majority cased in yellow gold.

The present 2499 second series is of exceptional quality and one can determine from the crisply fluted lugs and strong hallmarks to the side of the case that the watch has not suffered from careless over-polishing and has been kept as close as possible to its original condition. The dial has adopted a slight ivory tone from aging with hard enamel signature perfectly raised and intact as one hopes to expect.

One of the best 2499 second series to be offered in public, the present watch is without a doubt one of the most important vintage perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatches to be offered on the American market in recent years

Reference 2499 is illustrated in Patek Philippe by M. Huber and A. Banberry, 1988, plate 384, p. 230.
