Now that God Was Surely Settled
signed 'Helen Bradley' and signed with a fly (lower right), inscribed and dated 'Now that God was surely settled in his shed up/Springhead and he'd got used to the rather cold rainy/weather, he thought he would like to have a look/at Manchester, but before setting off he was rather/desmayed [sic] at the dullness of the sun. He got up/very early and just as it was peeping over the/hill, he hooked it out of the sky with his safety/pin on the end of a piece of string, and gave it a/good polish with Brasso. Then he put it back/again. Oh, we had a glorious week of beautiful/sunshine, but God thought he'd better dig a/hole and get a stop tap so that he could regulate/the rain. Before going off to Manchester he thought he'd/better turn the tap on because it wasnt good to/have dry hot weather all the time, but, oh my, it did/rain. "God", said Grandma, "I wish you'd come back/and turn the stop tap off, it didnt stop, so Grandma/said she'd get David Thomas to take two men from the County/End Mill. They found God looking perplexed and very wet,/"Hey God" he cried, "have you lost the stop tap,", but just then one of/the men caught his dog in the hole and God promptly turned it/off and the year was 1906.'
