MARK OF JOHN MANNERS, LONDON, CIRCA 1738
Tapering cylindrical with reeded rib, on stepped foot, the domed cover with baluster finial, engraved with horses galloping, one having passed a winning post surmounted by a tankard, further engraved with an inscription, marked near rim, on handle and inside cover with maker's mark only
10 in. (25 cm.) high
44 oz. (1,372 gr.)
The inscription reads 'The Duke of Somerset's Plate Midhurst, Thursday in Whitsun Week May the 25th 1738'
