Lot Essay

Founder of four generations of guitar builders, José Ramirez is celebrated as the dominate figure in Spanish guitar making. Renowned for their playability, Ramirez's guitars appealed to middle-income professional musicians. Highly developed skill and brilliant craftsmanship molded the production of his every guitar.

This guitar has been argued to be the work of José Ramirez II as made evident by the maker's monogram visible on the label and stamped interiorly on the back.
