Spring Lane
signed 'HELEN BRADLEY' and signed with a fly (lower left), inscribed and dated 'It was a lovely sunny afternoon as we all/went for our afternoon walk along Spring Lane./There was Grandma, Mother, Aunt Mary, Aunt Frances/Aunt Charlotte, George and I with Gyp and Barney. We/could see Miss Carter (who wore Pink) hurrying along in front/to meet Mr Taylor (the Bank Manager), but we had to stop/because on the other side of the lane was Miss Winterbottom/(who taught the infants). Grandma and Aunt Mary wondered/where she was taking all her little ones, while Aunt Frances/and Aunt Charlotte went up to her ... "Oh Frances", said Miss/Winterbottom, "we're going haymaking. It will do the children/good to be out-of-doors. Will you come and help us?". So,/Aunt Frances and Aunt Charlotte stayed behind to help Miss/Winterbottom. "Well", said Mother, "She'll need some help,/There's Willie and Annie Murgatroyd going to join them, and/that dreadful boy's got his catapult with him" George and I/would have loved to have joined in, but not with Willie/Murgatroyd being there and the year was 1907.' (on a label framed separately)
