Aunt Edith was Seventeen and Sighed for Love
signed with a fly (lower left), signed again, inscribed and dated 'Aunt Edith was seventeen and sighed for love./But Grandpa said she was not allowed to/speak to Boys until she put her hair up at/eighteen, and then she could ask them to tea,/but Aunt Edith had fallen in love and it/made her sad, she pined and would not/play with George & I or even take the dogs (Gyp & Barney) for a walk. She even lost her love for/Pyes Ice Cream which was a calamity for us/because we relied on her treating us. It was/a sad holiday. All she did was sigh & cry/Oh Love, Love Thou art as lovely as a Rose/whose Petals open in the Morning Sun .../and the year was 1908/Helen Layfield Bradley 1968' (on a label attached to the backboard)
