Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial, raised hour markers in yellow gold and tachometer scale in 1939 and its subsequent sale on 16 April 1940. Furthermore delivered with the original fitted brown presentation box.

Consigned by the descendants of the original owner, the present "one-thirty" chronograph has apparently never been worn and has, according to family tradition, always been locked away in its original Patek Philippe box. Close analysis of the case, dial and movement reveals that indeed there are not only no signs of use but, more importantly, no evidence of polishing or repair. Furthermore, it is understood that the leather strap and buckle are these which came with the watch when originally purchased over half a century ago.

There are certainly more important complicated vintage wristwatches by Patek Philippe than the regular yellow gold reference 130 but examples in such exquisite condition are extremely rare finds and deserve to be considered as noteworthy collectors watches as many more prestigious references from the same period.

The production of the simple chronograph with reference 130 was launched in 1934. The model was produced in different precious metal versions as well as in stainless steel.
