With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin dated 26 May 2006 confirming production of the present watch with black dial and Arabic markers, additional plain screw back numbered 4'146'772, 18K gold and wooden setting pin, sales tag, modern wooden presentation box and outer packaging. Furthermore delivered with the Extract from the Archives confirming production of this watch with black dial and Arabic hour markers in rose gold in 2006 and its subsequent sale on 26 May 2006.
This reference 5004 in rose gold is a particularly rare and exclusive specimen as fitted with the attractive black dial featuring rose gold numerals and white printing. The desirability of this chronograph is furthermore enhanced by the presence of the original certificate fully confirming that it was mounted by Patek Philippe at the time of its manufacture. Research reveals that, since the launch of reference 5004 in the early 1990s, no more than six examples of this model in rose gold have been accounted for with such sought after dial version.
It is the first time that the present watch is offered at auction.
Reference 5004 is already today, despite of still being listed in Patek Philippe's catalogues, considered a classic. Deriving from reference 3970 (see lots 15 and 320 in this auction) which is the true and legitimate successor to the mythical reference 2499 (see lots 139 and 427), reference 5004 embodies not only the essence of Patek Philippe's design legacy of the post war decades but also the savoir faire of their skilled master watchmakers who managed to add another highly complex mechanism to a traditional sized watch without disturbing its proportions. To many collectors, reference 5004 is one of the greatest wristwatches ever made and is often mentioned as the watch with the most promising future on the market.
