Lot Essay

US$175,000-250,000

With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin dated September 2005, additional case back and strap, setting pin, instruction manual, product literature, original fitted presentation box and outer packaging. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe Extract from Archives confirming production of the watch with opaline-white dial and Arabic hour markers in pink gold in 2005 and its subsequent sale on 28 September 2005.

Reference 5004 is already today, despite of still being listed in Patek Philippe's catalogues, considered a classic. Deriving from reference 3970 which is the true and legitimate successor to the mythical reference 2499, reference 5004 embodies not only the essence of Patek Philippe's design legacy of the post war decades but also the savoir faire of their skilled master watchmakers who managed to add another highly complex mechanism to a traditional sized watch without disturbing its proportions. To many collectors, reference 5004 is one of the greatest wristwatches ever made and is often mentioned as the watch with the most promising future on the market.

To the best of our knowledge, the present watch has never been offered in public before.

Manufacture of reference 5004 was launched in 1995. The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 312.
