PROPERTY FROM THE ESTATE OF ROBERTA MANN BENSON
Dr. Roberta Mann Benson (1938-2010) was a lifelong resident of Minnesota who through her generosity, support and dedication made her mark as a noted philanthropist and leader in her community. Dr. Mann Benson is known for her involvement with the Minnesota Orchestra, the PACER Center, the Abbott Northwestern Hospital and as a Trustee of the Minneapolis Institute of Art. She held a Doctorate Degree of Education in Leadership, was the first woman president of the Boys and Girls Club of Minneapolis, and served both on the Board and various committees of the United Way since 1989. Perhaps the greatest impact of Dr. Mann Benson's generosity is that felt by young adults with Mental Health and Learning Disabilities who benefit from the annual Ted and Dr. Roberta Mann Foundation Symposium about Children and Young Adults with Mental Health and Learning Disabilities founded by Dr. Mann Benson and her husband six years ago. Furthermore, she held a particular interest in the use of integrative medicine nationally. In 2006, Dr. Mann Benson was presented with the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, an annual award established in 1983 to recognize individuals who dedicated their lives to community service.
Works from the Collection of Roberta Mann Benson will be offered for sale in both the Prints and Multiples Sale as well as the Post-War and Contemporary Day sale this fall. Dr. Mann Benson displayed her collection in her home on Lake Minnetonka in suburban Minneapolis. Her primary collecting interest was in Post-War and Contemporary art.
