This work will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of paintings and collages being prepared by the Dedalus Foundation.
"My images are determined by a combination of vectors. A subject emerges out of an interaction between my self, my I, and my medium. It is determined by what dominant hues I am using, by the format, by whether the spatial concept is of a void, or a wall, or a figure (or, very rarely, of a landscape)... My work has a strong sense of light, but it is not atmospheric light; it is generated instead by planar color and value" (R. Motherwell, quoted in J. Flam, Motherwell, New York: Rizzoli, 1991, pp. 11).
