MAKER'S MARK 'VK', ST PETERSBURG, 1908-1917
Rectangular with rounded corners, reeded overall, the hinged cover inset with a silver coin depicting the profile of Empress Catherine II part-enamelled in royal blue, with a hardstone push-piece, the interior engraved with a dedicatory inscription in Russian to Count Sergei Alexeevich Ignatiev above scratched date 1914, marked inside base and cover, also with Soviet control mark

The full inscription reads, 'To dear Count Sergei Alexeevich Ignatiev from No. 3 [eskadron] N.M. Prutchenko, T.N. Skalon, A.P. Grebs, M. M. Raevskii, Count P.A. Ignatiev, N.N. Pum, Count V.K. Kleinmikhel, A.L. Kislovskii, Prince V.L. Vyazemskii, Prince A.P. Svyatopolk-Mirskii.' All of the above served as officers in the Guard Hussar Regiment during the First World War.
