By repute, this diamond ring belonged to the vendor's great grandmother, Baroness Emmy von Ephrussi. The vendor's brother is Edmund de Waal, the highly acclaimed author of the (2007) book, The Hare with the Amber Eyes, which is based on the rise of the Ephrussi family, and traces the journey of the family's treasured collection of netsuke.
