Lot Essay

We can compare this mask to another related mask published in Primitivism in 20th Century Art (Rubin, W. (dir.), Verona, 1987, French edition: p.264) in the Tervuren Museum collection (Belgium). Rubin relates this mask to a woman's face painted by Picasso in Les Demoiselles D'Avignon (The Museum of Modern Art, New York), both demonstrating an extraordinarily original reconfiguration of the human face.
